About Davewiththebees

I’m Dave and I’m passionate about keeping bees! This site is here so I can share some info with you on the problems faced by bees and mankind. I have bees around and about Guildford in the Surrey Hills, England.

The plight of the honey bee is of international concern and in the UK there has been a significant number of supporters promoting the need for more beekeepers over the past 20 years or so. Recently the wider insect family has reached the nations attention, and rightly so, they are all valuable but we must not lose sight of the significant importance of the honey bee to agriculture. The honey bee is so much more than simply a honey producer, they are a crucial element to an agriculture industry worth billions a year.  Statistics show that the majority of beekeepers in the UK are well over 50 and we desperately need new beekeepers and very many of them too or they will soon start to disappear as fast as the honey bee!

It is some years now since the late John Hamer of Blackhorse Apiaries imprinted his enthusiasm on me, and like him, I also share the mission to introduce as many new faces to the fascinating world of the Honey Bee as I can to ensure that we have many colonies of bees for the future and to do this I run both winter-spring Saturday courses and intensive two-day spring/summer courses .

Bee’s can no longer survive outside of our care, and we cannot survive without them!
